These superdo stars are fun to make. The design is super festive, which can be expanded into a larger version that you can use as Christmas decoration. The earrings can also be made in other colors so they can be worn beyond the holidays.

Needed supplies:

  • Fireline 0.15
  • Superduos in 3 different colors
  • Needle
  • Miyuki seed beads 11/0 (for the earrings)
  • Ear hooks (for the earrings)
  • Miyuki seed beads 8/0 (for the pendant)

The base for both stars is the same. We’ll start with a generous piece of fireline—you’ll need about a meter. First, we’ll string three of the three superduo colors alternately. Tie the ends together, leaving about 10 cm of thread for rethreading and securing later. Now thread it through the top hole of the next superduo.

You’re now going to string one superduo of the color that comes after the next superduo, so in this case, the green. Then, thread it through the top hole of the superduo next to it. String another superduo of the next color, in this case a dark blue, and thread it through the top hole of the superduo below it. Complete the entire circle in this way.

Now we’re moving on to the next round. Thread your yarn through the top hole of the superduo, then string two superduos in the next color. In this case, the dark blue one. String them through the top hole of the superduo below. String two more superduos in the next color and string them through the top hole of the superduo below.

Complete the circle. Now we’re moving on to the next round. Thread your yarn through the top hole of the next superduo. Now you’ll thread one superduo at a time, and through the top hole of the next superduo. Pay close attention to the color order.

Complete the entire circle in this way.

* From this point, you can choose whether to make the earrings or the star pendant. If you’re making the pendant, you can scroll down a bit; for the earrings, let’s continue. Thread the wire through the top hole of the next super duo, string one super duo in the color below it, in this case the light blue one, and thread it through the top hole of the next super duo. Now thread it through the top hole of the super duo below it. This will create the point of the star.

Next, thread through the top hole of the next superduo, then thread another superduo. Now thread through the next superduo and through the top hole of the superduo below it. Then thread through the top hole of the next superduo and thread another superduo. Keep repeating this until the circle, or in this case, the star, is complete.

Now find the spot you like best in terms of color, thread towards it, making sure you reach the very top of the point. Now string on 6 seed beads and go back through the super duo. Now thread down through the star to weave in the thread. You can tie a small knot to keep the thread from unraveling. Weave in the thread you started with as well. Now you can attach the ear hook, and your earring is finished!

*From here, we’ll continue with the Christmas pendant. You’ll thread the next super duo through the top hole. Then, thread one super duo and thread it through the top hole of the next super duo. Now, thread two super duos and thread them through the top hole of the next super duo.

Now move on to the next color and thread another super duo through the top hole of the next super duo, then thread two more super duos. Complete the entire circle in this way, paying close attention to which color you need to thread. After this, thread through the top hole of the next super duo again to begin the next circle. Here, we start with one super duo, then through the top hole of the super duo below, and thread another super duo. Again, thread through the top hole of the super duo below.

Next, we’ll string an 8/0 seed bead. Continue this process throughout the entire circle. Again, pay close attention to which color you’re stringing. Now, make sure you’re in the middle of the two super duos you’ve strung and string another super duo. This will create the point of the star.

Now thread through the top hole of the next super duo, then through the top hole of the super duo below it so you can thread through the seed bead. Then thread through the top hole of the next super duo, and then through the top hole of the next super duo. Now thread another super duo in the correct color and complete the circle in this manner.

Now find the spot you like best in terms of color, thread towards it, making sure you reach the very top of the point. This is where you can thread the seed beads to create a loop to hang the star. I chose five so I could add a hook, but you can also thread more to make the loop larger and use that to hang the pendant. Now thread the thread back through the superduo and thread it through the star. You can tie a small knot for security. Finally, weave the thread in on the inside by zigzagging it through the star. Now your beautiful Christmas star is finished and ready to shine!
