These bracelets are super easy to make and fun the wear, especially on a beach day!
You don’t need much supplies and don’t need to use a beading-technique.

Needed supplies:

  • C-lon beading cord 0.5mm (use any color you like)
  • Kauri shells with holes on both sides
  • Miyuki seed beads 6-4202 (duracoat galvanized gold) or any other color beads you want to use, matching your cord 😉
  • Threading needle
  • Measuring tape
  • Lighter or wire burner

Instructions:

Step 1) Cut two strands of yarn, each about 35cm long.

Pinch the two strands together and tie a knot about 8cm from the end of the strand. This is the start of your bracelet.

Step 2) Thread the beads through the cowrie shell as follows, sliding them against the starting knot.

Take one thread and thread it diagonally upwards through one threading hole, using the needle, through the center of the shell.

Now take the other thread and thread it diagonally through the center of the shell into the other threading hole.

Step 3) Using two threads at a time, tie a knot tightly against the cowrie shell. Then thread a gold bead over the two threads and tie another knot.

Now, after the shell, you have a knot/bead/knot.

Step 4) Now string another cowrie shell (see step 2).

After the shell, tie another knot, then a bead, and then another knot.

Continue repeating these steps until you have strung about 6 shells. (This depends on the desired size, of course.)

Step 5) Cut the length of the wires to 7 cm.

Step 6) Ring 1 bead at each end and tie a knot.

How to make a sliding knot:

Cut off the remaining thread and burn the end with your lighter: it will melt. Then you can press against the end to form a little ‘ball’. This will hold the knot in place.

Your bracelet is finished!!

Enjoy your lovely bracelet/anklet! There are, of course, several variations possible, such as with pieces of macramé in between. This is the same technique as the sliding knot. Let your imagination run wild!

Keep measuring your bracelet as you go, this way you avoid it being too small or too big and having to remove tricky knots.
