This cute snowflake is a lovely ornament to hang on your tree, but since you can make them in all sizes, an earring or necklace pendant is also a nice variation. In this blog post, We’ll explain the basic technique for stringing a Christmas star.

Used supplies:

  • Plastic round facet beads 11mm
  • Steel wire or Fireline

Instructions:
In the example we used black steel wire because it shows up better in the photo. You could also choose thick, transparent nylon thread. If you want to make the star nice and sturdy so the points stay upright you could use Fireline or double the steel wire. This is harder to thread, but the result is nicer.

Cut a piece of wire about a meter long. String eight beads onto the steel wire.

Tie a tight knot.

String 7 beads.

Thread your wire through the 4th bead from bottom to top.

Pull this tight and you will create the first tip of your snowflake.

String 3 beads.

To ensure the next point is perfectly aligned, thread it through the bead shown in the image.
Always pull this tight so the points of your snowflake stay straight and don’t bend.

String 7 beads.

Thread again through the 4th bead from bottom to top.

Pull tight and your 2nd point of the star is made.

Bead 1 bead.

Now you string it through the bottom 2 beads of your previous point.

You will now continue stringing by stringing the starting circle to end up in the bead in the picture for your next point.

From now on, you repeat steps 7 through 12 for each point until you have to make the last point.

String 5 beads.

Pass the second bead from the snowflake through the bead from bottom to top to create another point.

Bead 1 bead.

Now thread through the bottom 2 beads of your first point, pull everything tight again and tie your thread randomly.

Have fun making this ornament!
